Abstract

Rice earhead bug, Leptocorisa acuta Thunberg (Hemiptera: Alydidae) is found in almost all the countries where rice crop is grown. It, however, becomes more prevalent in rainfed wetland or upland rice. In Tripura, rice earhead bug (REB) is one of the major pests of rice crop leading to considerable field losses. Experiments were conducted in the field to evaluate the efficacy of some insecticides against REB, L. acuta. The results in field evaluation showed that all the insecticides are having significantly reduced pest population. The mortality percentage of L. acuta caused by different insecticides ranged from 74.01 to 97.03%. Among all the treatments tested, Quinolphos 25 EC gave the highest mortality(97.03%) as compared to untreated control (5.48%).

Abstract

An experiment was carried out to find the different levels of inoculums on incidence of foot rot disease of finger millet or nagli at Botany farm, College of Agriculture, Dr. BSKKV, Dapoli. The fungus was studied at four levels of inoculum i.e. 1, 10, 50 and 100 sclerotia per pot. At all levels except 100 sclerotia per pot seedling mortality and symptoms was observed within 30th, 20th and 13th days of inoculation, respectively. Only one plant wilted upto 11th days of inoculation in inoculum level of 100 sclerotia per pot. Number of sclerotia produced per pot increased with increase in inoculum levels.

Abstract

Field experiment has been carried during Rabi, 2009, to find out pea varieties, germplasm lines and genotypes against pea wilt incited by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. pisi. Among the pea verieties tested, Arkel was found most susceptible with significantly highest mean wilt incidence (22.66%), and this was followed by Latur local-1 (29 %) and Latur Local-2 (28%). Soldier was found moderately susceptible with mean wilt incidence of 19 per cent. Thus, pea variety Soldier may be preferred for sowing during first fortnight of October, so as to minimize the yield losses due to wilt incidence.

Abstract

During Kharif 2011 survey, maximum disease severity was recorded in Ranebennur (56.26%). Least severity was noticed in Kushtagi (33.88%). During Rabi 2011 survey, maximum disease severity was observed in Ranebennur (50.26%). Least severity was noticed in Kushtagi (27.88%).

Abstract

A roving survey of early blight of tomato disease were carried out during Rabi season, 2008- 2009 at Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts and per cent disease incidence was recorded ranged from 26.33 to 50.77 per cent .The mean incidence of early blight recorded was 40.97 per cent in Konkan region. The maximum per cent disease incidence was observed in Wada Tahsil in Thane district with 50.77 per cent and minimum per cent disease incidence in Goregaon Tahsil of Raigad districts with 26.33 per cent in Konkan.

Abstract

Damping off diseases in okra is an economically most important and destructive disease of okra. The main characteristic symptom of the disease is pre- emergence damping off i.e. rotting of the seeds and seedlings before actual emergence from the soil and postemergence damping off which is severe when the seedlings are in cotyledonous stage. The infected tissues become soft and water soaked resulting in toppling over of the entire plant on the soil surface. The test pathogen (Pythium aphanidermatum) was isolated successfully on the basal culture medium Potato dextrose agar, from the seedlings showing typical symptoms of damping off. The pathogen produced nonseptate, well branched, colourless to white mycelium, lobed sporangia on indeterminate sporangiophores, and formation of resting spore (oospore) when observed under the microscope. Pathogenicity of P. aphanidermatum was proved by sick soil method in pot culture, sowing okra cv. PARBHANI KRANTI under screen house condition and by water agar method. The pathogen was reisolated on PDA from artificially diseased okra seedling, and compared its cultural and morphological characteristics with the original fungus isolated from the naturally damping off diseased okra plant.
